Week of September 3-7 2012
Science:
6th Grade Science ~ we will start on Chapter 2 this week and will have a quiz next week some time. Parents, please check their planner each night to check for homework and unfinished class work. You can access the book online by going to http://scm.sumnerschools.org and clicking on "textbooks" (on the left) and then click "6th grade Science. It is important that each student is prepared every day by having their textbook, journal, workbook, paper and pencil.
7th Grade Science ~ we will start Chapter 2 this week and will have a quiz next week some time. Math
We are still working on Chapter 2 and will have a test on what we have covered so far in Chapter 2 on Thursday (subtracting/adding, multiplying/dividing intergers). We will also be going into more of the new core math this week. Please bring paper, pencil, calculator, workbook and text book everyday to class! Parents, please check their planner every night to check for any homework or unfinished class work.
In case you were unaware, our Math is going to be very different this year. We have been introduced to "common core" and it is truly unlike anything I have ever seen for Math. Not only are students required to find the answers, they are required to explain in detail how they came to the answer. Each problem or "task" will have several steps. In just a few short years, our Math TCAP will be all common core type tasks. You can read more about this at: www.tncore.org/math.aspx.
